Roger Corman's Best of the B's Collection 1. Fast Cars, Bikers, and Babes are the theme to this seven film (on four DVD) collection. First up is the biker classic NAKED ANGELS (1969), followed up by director Barbara Peters female biker revenge classic BURY ME AN ANGEL (1971) starring Dixie Peabody on DVD for the first time ever. The original FAST AND THE FURIOUS (1954) directed by and starring John Ireland is followed by THE T-BIRD GANG (1959) and Jack Nicholson in WILD RIDE (1960). Jack Hill’s THE WINNER with Ellen Burstyn, Sid Haig and Beverly Washburn was made in 1967 and released in 1969 as PIT STOP. And last but not least, the biker classic, ANGELS HARD AS THEY COME (1971) written by Jonathan Demme and starring Scott Glenn rounds out the collection. Jim Brown takes on the Japanese in PACIFIC INFERNO (1979), while Richard Roundtree grapples with thugs in MIAMI COPS (1989). Ron O’Neal teams with Roundtree in the action film MERCENARY FIGHTERS (1988) while Ajita Wilson and Linda Blair butt heads in SAVAGE ISLAND (1985). Steve James becomes a STREET HUNTER (1990), while director Antonio Margherti shows former boxer Marvin Hagler how to get mean in INDIO (1989). Hong Kong action import MAFIA VS NINJA (1984) brings a little kung fu action to the mix, while Jim Kelly kicks ass in KILL FACTOR (1978) aka Death Dimension. You also get director Bitto Albertini’s BLACK EMMANUELLE 2 (1976) and Fred “The Hammer” Williamson in director Umberto Lenzi’s BLACK COBRA 4: DETECTIVE MALONE (1990) wraps things up in fine Euro-import style.There are a couple flicks that may be a bit suspect as far as calling them “blaxploitation” movies, but most of the movies in this set are uncommon to find on DVD and you do get a few decent imports added to the mix, making the collection well worth the money as a whole. Collector’s Edition DVD Box Set - Jack Nicholson is McMurphy, a patient in a 60s mental institution who may or may not be just acting crazy. McMurphy has a way of getting the other patients (including Michael Berryman, Danny DeVito, Brad Dourif, Christopher Lloyd, and Scatman Crothers) riled up, which doesn’t bode well for him when Nurse Rachet (Louise Fletcher) decides to put him in his place. The movie went on to win all five top Oscars and continues to be one of the best non-conformist films ever made.
This box set edition includes commentary by director Milos Forman and producers Michael Douglas and Saul Zaentz. It also includes additional scenes, trailers, and the complete 87 minute “Completely Cuckoo” retrospect and an all new interview with Michael Douglas shot for this release. This low budget exploitation flick from Josh Becker features several of the same people who worked on Evil Dead, including co-writer Bruce Campbell, producer Scott Spiegel, and actor Ted Raimi. This Hammer Film horror classic was one of the better films the company put out in the 1970’s. It’s finally seen its day on DVD, complete with a making of featurette, a history of circus horror, a look at House of Hammer magazine, trailer and more.

The Booby Hatch. aka The Liberation of Cherry Jankowski. Sweet and innocent Cherry Jankowski (Sharon Joy Miller) is a product tester for a company that makes sex toys. As she looks for self fulfillment from her life and job, her friend and co-worker Marcello (Rudy Ricci) is having trouble at work and is at risk of loosing his job if he can’t start getting it up again. Will the two of them work out their problems and live happily ever after, or will they just lay down on the job and hope for a better life with a new company? John Russo, Rudy Ricci, and Russ Streiner, three of the guys responsible for the classic Night of the Living Dead got together and made themselves a 70’s sex comedy. The best part? It’s actually funny. Includes a second, alternate cut of the film under the original Liberation of Cherry Jankowski title, commentary with Russo, Ricci, and Streiner, and trailer. DVD

2 Disc Special Edition - In one of his last (and better) horror outings before his death, Lucio Fulci himself stars as a horror movie director being driven insane by his own films. As he’s thrust into violent and gory nightmare visions and a sense of dread, one can only wonder if his visions are real or imagined. Special 2-Disc edition features the uncut version of the film in either English or Italian. Plus, interviews with Fulci and star Brett Halsey, that horrid video of Fulci at the 1995 Fangoria weekend of boredom that made the rounds for years, trailer, poster art and more. We haven’t seen this DVD available for some time, so I have no idea if it’s now out of print or what? We uncovered a few copies, so when they are gone, they’re gone.

One of the better, and more sought after made for TV films made, has finally been released to DVD. After young Marylee Williams is found viciously mauled, the town forms a gang of knuckle draggers that accuse, track down, and kill her retarded friend Bubba Ritter after they find him hiding out inside a scarecrow. When they discover they made a mistake, a strange apparition begins stalking them down and the legend of the Scarecrow begins. Includes commentary from director Frank DeFelitta, and a CBS TV promo. Trying to get away and find some peace and quiet, Joe Melton moves to the country. Unfortunately, about the same time Joe moves to Miranda Falls, the locals of the little town are being slaughtered by demons and poor Joe goes off the deep end. Now Joe and his talking axe may be the only thing between a demon invasion and human salvation. Includes behind the scenes featurette, deleted scenes, trailer, short film and one of those complete waste of time introductions by Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman. DVD

Roy Frumkes amazing documentary on horror director George Romero was filmed as he was working on his zombie classic, Dawn of the Dead. An intimate look at Romero’s creative process, this film contains a wealth of behind-the-scenes footage from the shooting of Dawn, as well as makeup effects footage, scenes from other Romero films, interviews with cast and crew members and more. This is the uncut version of Document of the Dead. It contains almost 6 minutes worth of footage that was deleted from the original release of the film, as well as a new segment Frumkes shot ten years later on the set of Romero’s “Two Evil Eyes” segment. A must for all Dawn of the Dead and Romero fans if ever I saw one! Frequently out of print and unavailable, we have a limited number available, so don’t wait too long to order. DVD
